Prompt Engineering for AI

Prompt Engineering for AI In-Person

Communicating effectively with AI Large Language Models (LLMs) is not as easy as it sounds. Just as with humans, LLMs like ChatGPT or Google's Gemini can misunderstand the nature of a question, be misled by imprecise instructions, or simply hallucinate a false answer. That's where prompt engineering comes in. Prompt engineering is the art of crafting clear, concise, and effective instructions for AI language models. It involves understanding the model's capabilities and limitations, and then formulating prompts that guide the model to produce the desired output.

OFL's Digital Services & Technology Librarian will provide an in-depth look at the techniques and strategies of prompt engineering, whether you're using an LLM to generate creative text, translate languages, or answer general questions in an informative way.

No prior experience with AI LLMs or prompt engineering is required. Laptops will be provided for in-library use; patrons are welcome to bring their own devices if desired. This description was authored in collaboration with Google Gemini.
